The Carson City Fire Department is an outstanding fire department that provides all-risk EMS and firefighting services to the community.
This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with the Carson City Fire Department, located in Carson City, NV.
Under general supervision, safely transports Basic Life Support patients from one location to another.
Position responds to 911 dispatched BLS (Basic Life Support) calls.
Individuals may choose between the following Nevada PERS Retirement plansEmployer-Paid PERS:

Safely and efficiently transports BLS patients and/or passengers from one location to another by way of ambulance.
Response to 911 dispatched BLS calls.
Perform medical aid at the basic Emergency Medical Technician level.
Assist paramedics with administering medical aid at medical emergencies; apply techniques for patient care; utilize immobilization techniques to stabilize patients.
Assist patient in getting dressed and moving between bed and gurney.
Assist in weighing patients before transfer to facility bed.
Assists passengers on and off vehicle and provides assistance in carrying the passenger's personal belongings.
Performs daily vehicle inspections to include basic vehicle checks and minor maintenance; recommends and monitors service repairs when necessary.
Answers questions and provides information to patients as required; may provide information to medical and social service providers regarding client status.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team; addresses and resolves complaints when presented.
Routinely wash and clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle, including fueling the vehicle.
Complete appropriate documentation, including but not limited to, run logs and accurate patient reports.
Uses radio and/or phone to communicate and receive information in the vehicle on patient transfers or status.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with elected officials, public, and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Routinely inspects equipment for function and cleanliness; orders additional or replacement inventory when needed.
Typical QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GED; and current EMT-B certification and six (6) months of experience transporting patients and/or passengers; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Driver's License.
Current National Registry or State of Nevada Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic certification.
Without possessing a State of Nevada or National Registry EMT-B certification, applicants must be able to obtain State of Nevada reciprocity for their EMT-B certification prior to appointment.
As a condition of employment, certification must be maintained during course of employment.
Current CPR and AED certification.
Ability to obtain licensure as an Ambulance Attendance driver.
Required Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of Laws, rules and regulations for operating a motor vehicle in the state of Nevada.
Streets and roads located within the City and surrounding areas.
Basic life support, First Aid, CPR and AED procedures, along with PPE garments.
Proper technique to move patients from bed to gurney.
Proper radio communication technique.
Record keeping principles and practices.
Safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work.
Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Department policies and procedures.
Skill in Driving an ambulance skillfully and safely.
Maintaining accurate records of work performed, including clients transported.
Understanding and following oral and written directions.
Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Dealing effectively with disabled individuals and others needing special assistance.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDUnder General Supervision- Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms.
The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior.
Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and an emergency scene, use standard office equipment, sit for extended periods of time, and serve as on-scene emergency coordinator; strength to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone; exposure to traffic conditions, inclement weather conditions and human body fluids.
Supplemental InformationCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT All new employees will serve a probationary period of twelve (12) months.
Such employees are not subject to the collective bargaining agreement and may be laid off or discharged during this period for any reason, or no reason.
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
Employees in this position must be willing to work flexible schedules/shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime to meet the required hours of operation.
Any City employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position.
This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
Employees may be required to complete Incident Command System training as a condition of continuing employment.
New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation which cost the new employee $56.

Must satisfactorily pass a pre-employment physical to be administered by the Fire Department.
