Supervisory Hydrologist GS-1315-13 (MP-USGS-YMJ)

As a Supervisory Hydrologist (Chief, Hydrologic Networks Section) within the Nevada Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
-Develops, plans and administers hydrologic monitoring program in the Center.
Reviews selected monitoring datasets for final Center approval.
-Serves as principal advisor to the Center Director on collection, analysis, interpretation, and publication of hydrologic data in the Center.
-Serves on Center senior management team and participates in Center program planning and overall management.
-Directly supervises Field Office Chiefs for northern and southern data collection networks, and personnel in the NV Information Management Unit that oversees analysis, management, and archiving of geospatial data for the Center.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work requires some physical exertion such as:
long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activity; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing less than 23 kilograms (under50 pounds).
The work regularly involves moderate risks or discomforts associated with visiting field sites with limited access, under adverse weather or flooding conditions, or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals.
Work may require the use of special clothing or gear such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, respirators, or life jackets.

In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience in hydrology that is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service.
Examples of such experience include planning, executing and reporting on original hydrologic studies or ongoing hydrologic studies requiring a fresh approach to resolve new problems.
The complexity of this work typically required extensive modification and adaptation of standard procedures, methods, and techniques, and the development of totally new methods and techniques to address novel or obscure problems for which guidelines or precedents were not substantially applicable.
At this level, Hydrologists have extensive knowledge of the principles of hydrology and highly developed ability in their application, and wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment to perform scientific work of marked difficulty and responsibility.
