The employee will perform varied tasks that require a general knowledge of program areas such as enforcement of use requirements or natural and historical information interpretation and development. As a Park Ranger your duties will include but will not be limited to:
Advises visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, amenities available, and proper and authorized uses of recreational facilities Patrols and inspects facilities ensuring compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to parking, campfires, noise level, sanitation, and safety; bringing problems or violations to the attention of visitors and, if appropriate, issues notices of violations. Investigates and reports all trespasses or damage to Government property, showing amount of damage or type of trespass, persons involved, and recommendations for corrective action. When corrective action is not taken, issues a warning or citation for the violation. Provides applicants information on issuance of permits; takes initial application for permit; informs permit holders of action required to correct minor violations of permits and reports major violations to supervisor. Meets with visitors to provide information concerning points of interest, travel routes, historical and natural features, site use opportunities and limitations, and park activities. Prepares recreation areas/sites for visitor use, to include planning, operation, and required maintenance. Plans day-to-day operations of a recreation area or site that provides such facilities as camping, water sports, or picnic areas; coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel. Assists in the performance of day-to-day operations at a visitor center or customer use area that provide facilities such as campgrounds, picnic areas, trails, and/or other specialized recreational opportunities. Physical Demands:
The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. The position requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads.Work Environment:
Most work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations. Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-04 level:
Applicants must possess at least Six (6) months of general experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative or other responsible work and in addition six (6) months of specialized experience that demonstrated the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the work of this position.; OR Two (2) years of education above high school that included at least 12 semester hours of coursework in subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources(transcripts required); OR a combination of education and specialized experience described above (transcripts required). To qualify at the GS-05 level:
Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level. Examples of specialized experience may include explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; or monitoring special recreation permits; OR Successful completion of four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor s degree with 24 semester/36 quarter hours in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources(transcripts required).; OR A combination of experience and education described above (transcripts required). To qualify at the GS-06 level:
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level. Examples of specialized experience may include explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; developing and conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; monitoring special recreation permits; conducting potable water tests in compliance with appropriate state laws; or assisting with supervision of seasonal recreation technicians. -OR- I have completed one full academic year of graduate level education in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources (transcripts required); -OR- A combination of experience and education described above (transcripts required). To qualify at the GS-07 level:
Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level. Examples of specialized experience may include explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; or monitoring special recreation permits; OR I have completed one full academic year of graduate level education in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR I have a combination of education and specialized experience described above (transcripts required).Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. For volunteer work you must identify the amount of time worked for each volunteer position including the dates (mm/dd/yy) along with the number of hours worked per week. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
